Andy's Jazz Club & Restaurant
Biography & Highlights
You walk right off Hubbard Street into a wall of horns and heavy air. The place has been holding down this corner of River North for decades, and it doesn't try to be anything fancy. Door guy checks IDs with a nod while the sound of a snare drum bleeds through the heavy velvet curtain.
Tables are jammed so tight you're practically sharing a napkin with whoever's next to you. It's dark, loud, and sticky in all the right ways. You'll grab a gin and tonic from a bartender who's slinging drinks three deep without missing a beat. The crowd is a mix of old heads who've been coming since the eighties and tourists who stumbled in off the Magnificent Mile looking for a real Chicago set.
Up front, the band is sweating right under the lights. You can feel the bassline thumping straight through the floorboards into the soles of your shoes. Nobody's talking over the music because you can't hear yourself think anyway. Bill's got his saxophone howling while the piano player leans into the keys, and the whole room just stays locked in until the last note hangs in the air.
